I used to work for The French company Longchamp and over the years the company has opened factories internationally. They send their French crafts-people to train foreign workers in the making of the products. They also ship the high-quality leather and cloth to not compromise the quality of their products. They are providing legitimate job opportunities for people in those countries. They have done this to meet the international demand for their products. Longchamp would receive phone calls from customers who would ask why they got a handbag made in the Phillipines and not France. If the bag from France was not available they would ship what was readily available. Perhaps the Vera Bradley company is doing something similar.

I don't have a problem with a product that is made in China IF it is a Chinese product competing in the world market and the workers manufacturing the product are earning a decent living wage and are able to provide for themselves and their families.
I do have a problem with American companies shipping American jobs to China and enabling the corrupt Chinese government in the exploitation of their own people. I do indeed hope that this was/is a temporary solution until they are able to have another factory built in the USA.

I was very disappointed when the last Vera Bradley that I purchased was made in China. The quality is not as good. Instead of the quilted pockets inside, my purse has fabric pockets. I will not purchase any more unless it is made in the USA with the same quality that the older ones have. I also feel like I'm paying the same price but quality is not the same.

I have stopped buying Vera Bradley quite a while ago because I am now a Madison Handbag girl! They are fabulous bags that are also made in the USA, with 2 factories in upstate New York. MHB are customized bags sold at parties, much like Tupperware or Pampered Chef parties, but with Madison Hand Bags, you design your own bags using combinations of over 70 fabrics, linings, and hardware. I have also found they are much more durable than even my much older Vera Bradley bags. What's better than a bag you design yourself that is also made in the USA! :-)

I have been a longtime customer of VB, almost 15 years. I have just recently realized that these bags are being manufactured in China. This explains the poor quality of a bag that I recently purchased and eventually returned. I actually own many bags and I can definitely feel and see the difference between older bags versus newer. I have 4 daughters and we have all spent good money on VB. Unfortunately, I believe that our last purchases have been made. The price of these bags warrants being made in the USA, not in China by overworked and underpaid people. My most recent purchase also had cardboard on the bottom of it and it was bent! What a shame....

I live in Fort Wayne, IN and yes not all VB is made in FW. They are building more facilities to bring some things back to FW. What I have to laugh at is the State of IN was going to make one of the owners the head of the Commerce for the State (they are in charge of bringing jobs to IN) but they ship there own products to China.

I was on vacation in South Haven, MI and a store there was advertising Made in the USA, I took one of the clerks over to the huge display of VB and asked her if she new that the products they were advertising Made in the USA was probably made in China, she all but called me a liar so I opened ten bags and they were all made in China.

VB does not hire all of there employees as VB employees most are from a temp agency, some get hired after 90 days with that being said they are not paying benefits to alot of there employees. Manpower is the employment agency if you want to check this statement out.
